Getting Started

Welcome to Propensity Scores. In this module, you’ll learn how to create and use propensity scores. We’ll focus our attention on applying propensity scores in Canadian administrative health data using SAS.

By the end of this module, you will be able to define propensity scores and identify their assumptions and different methods; use logistic regression to create propensity scores; apply matching, stratification, and IPTW; and apply the HDPS macro in SAS.

To successfully complete this module, you will need:

  • A computer or mobile device with an internet connection
  • SAS installed on your computer (these modules are based on version 9.4)
  • CNODES Simulated Data Sets saved on your computer

If you have not already done these two steps, please return to Intro to SAS Interface and Language for instructions on setting up SAS, or to CNODES Simulated Data Sets for instructions on how to download the data sets.

To get the most from this module, it will be helpful to understand how randomized controlled trials and observational studies are used for research, understand confounding and why it’s important to account for in observational studies, and understand the basics of how to run a macro.
